Derek started scuba diving in 2003 in Fiji. After taking a brief (15 year!) hiatus from diving, he took a freediving course in Campbell River in 2021. Since then he’s been experiencing a whole new side of our planet while freediving around British Columbia and Mexico.

Derek works as a high school teacher and counsellor. When not teaching or exploring underwater he can be found kiteboarding, mountain biking, or at the CrossFit gym.

 

Fun fact: Derek won the British Columbia High School Wrestling Championships!

Derek's favourite things about diving are travelling, exploring, and meeting great people. Derek has been with EDSBC as a freediver since the first expedition, and seeing excitement in his fellow underwater explorers keeps him coming back for more.
